Coaches vs. Cancer Fundraiser

Rachel Webster and her family |
This weekend is our Coaches vs. Cancer annual fundraiser. Every year HK Travel Basketball collects donations at our home games this weekend to benefit a local family who has been impacted by cancer. We then donate those funds to the family as a show of support and hopefully an education to our players in the value of giving. Our small contribution has had a positive impact on so many people battling this horrible disease.
This year we have chosen to support the Webster family. Rachel Webster is the 10 year old daughter of HKHS music teacher Marcy Webster. Rachel was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma in February, 2022. Ewing’s Sarcoma is a rare bone and soft tissue cancer that affects children and teenagers. Since her diagnosis, Rachel has been battling this rare but aggressive form of cancer with chemotherapy and, over the summer, had an above-the-knee leg amputation. All money raised by HK Travel Basketball will go to Rachel and her family to pay for uncovered medical bills, handicap accessible renovations for their home, prosthetic devices, travel and living expenses associated with her stays in the hospital, and other necessities.
This weekend we only host games on Sunday at HK Middle School with the 5th Girls, 6th Boys, 7th Boys, 8th Boys and 8th Girls hosting teams. If your team is not playing at home, but would still like to contribute to the collection for the Webster Family please give your contribution, no matter how small to your teams coach to be added to the check we will be presenting. The kindness and sense of community we have is one of the wonderful reasons why HK is a great place to be and we know that this year will be no exception. Thank you to all in advance!
